What could be improved

After paying £2.50 for parking 2 hours which I considered long enough just to have a blood test. I was kept waiting all of this time and more in the pathology dept. I was then forced to pay an extra £2.50 for less than 30 minutes extra parking.

1) Why can Lister Hosp not have the same system of parking charges as the town centre.i.e with the chip pin. The cost of this system could be offset by the need for parking attends being made obsolete.

2) Considering that this is not the first time that I have been kept waiting an exhorbitant amount of time in the Pathology dept and that I have heard it is the norm to wait well over an hour for a blood test why, considering the amount of money ploughed into the NHS, can more staff not be taken on or at least have some sort of appointment system.

One very disgruntled NHS user.

Thank you for your comments, which we would like to comment on in turn.

1) Parking – the current design and layout of the Lister hospital site, which includes its public car parks, is such that it is not viable to operate any other car parking arrangements than the current one. This issue has been investigated thoroughly and the long term solution is a multi-storey car park that will enable people to pay for the time they park on leaving. This is part of the plan for developing the Lister hospital site over the next few years.

2) Blood test clinic waiting times – this part of the Trust has some of the greatest numbers of patients using it compared to nearly any other part of the hospital. While staffing can be an issue from time-to-time, the real challenge is the number of people who choose to come to hospitals like the Lister for simple blood tests. What many do not realise is that there are often easier alternatives in specialist clinics set up in health centres and community hospitals closer to where people live.
