"I do have problems still, may have a faulty bag."

About: Adult community services / Stoma prescription service

(as the patient),

I had a stoma bag on about two years, it's the best thing I had done. But I do have problems still, may have a faulty bag.

I do have problems, stomach pains. I get a lot of infections inside. Sometimes I have to change my bag maybe 8 times in 24 hours. I have had bag bust in bed. I get upset.

Sometimes I get little sores and bleeds. My stoma fills all times of the day, as it was like a set time (morning). If I have two cups of tea, then the bag fills to the top. Night time supper, one hour later the bag fills (why? ).

When I phone Rotherham prescriptions, there is a stoma nurse there - 01709 423 517.

For care I think say every 8 weeks the nurses should come out to check me, to see if everything is alright.

I may be wrong, but I don't think I am wrong.

Just a check.

Thank you.

Dear Blue794, thank you for your posting on Patient Opinion, we really appreciate patient feedback but are sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties.

When you ring to order your prescriptions, the prescription co-ordinators who answer the phone should ask you if everything is ok. Next time you ring, if you mention that you are having problems, they can organise the most appropriate follow up for you and arrange for you to be seen by a stoma nurse if needed. Unfortunately the stoma nurses are not able to routinely visit everyone who has a stoma to check that everything is ok; however the service has been re-designed to ensure that every patient who has a stoma has the opportunity to discuss any stoma product related problems each time they order a prescription. If you would like to speak to someone before your next prescription is due please ring and the team will be happy to help you.

With best wishes,

Kerry
