"Concerned about wife's safety"

About: East Surrey Hospital / General surgery East Surrey Hospital / Maternity

(as a relative),

Having read one of the stories of this website I decided to share a similar experience by my wife. She was supposed to have her blood tested by one of the nurses in the maternity department. After several trials the nurse said that she cannot find any veins and we were sent downstairs to the blood testing department, where they had no problems at all. Needles to say my wife had whole arm bruised.

I am really concerned about her safety when it comes to giving birth in the hospital. If they can't even take a blood sample what are they there for? Holding hands?

Another brilliant example - she had real problems with eating and drinking in the early stages of the pregnancy. At one point she was seriously dehydrated. The GP wouldn't have us without an appointment (typical) and they sent us to A&E. 4 hours later... she had a blood and urine sample taken. Another hour waiting, a nurse showed up and asked my wife if she can ask her a confidential question. She said: 'are you aware that you are pregnant? '. I thought I'll start banging my head against a wall. Yes! ! ! That's why we came here!
