About: Kingston Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

My elderly mother has just had an extended stay at Kingston hospital and I feel the level of care varies too much from ward to ward . Whilst overall the staff are kind I was disappointed at the attitude of others , whilst changing my mothers incontinance pads some never even spoke to her just pulled her about like a piece of meat . As my mother was very frail and her mental faculties were lacking when she was first admitted her care was not good at all - on several occasion when I visited she was lying in her own faeces and urine with no pad on at all because "she would lash out at the nurses and was therefore considered a risk to them " My mother is nearly 90 years old and very frail and was exceedingly scared as she had no idea what was happening to her especially when nobody even bothered to speak to her to tell her what they were doing . Also she spilled some juice on the floor one day and two days later the sticky patch was still on the floor . Later on her care was better but still not adequate , suffering from dehydration most of the times I visited her there was no water within her reach , she was also not eating on her own but if she was asleep when food orders were taken she often did not get anything at all . I then visited twice daily at mealtimes to feed her which I didnt mind doing at all and towards the end of her stay her overall care was much improved
