About: Edgbaston Hospital

Anything else?

I am 11 days post-op, having spent 7 at the hospital, during which time I experienced the very best treatment I could have wished for. The fact I was an NHS patient made absolutely no difference to the level of professionalism, expertise, reassurance and genuine heartfelt care I received. There are simply too many names to remember to thank each individually but I met no-one at BMI Edgbaston I considered to be in the wrong profession - something I can not say for some staff at a number of NHS hospitals my wife has had the misfortune to stay in - and, without exception, everyone smiled (at least once!). The rooms, varying in size, have the same basic kit: multi-adjustable hospital bed, 2 chairs with arms, one high-backed, stool and writing desk, small wardrobe and rolling bedside cabinet with drawer, telephone, tissue holder, urinal holder. TV usually flat-screen, varying in size with room. The en-suites, again variably sized, are wet-rooms with the expected grab rails. There is a small shelf below the mirror above the sink but little other room to keep toiletries out. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and kept spotlessly clean. Meals are served at 8am, 12pm and 6pm and there is a wonderful selection. The quality is superb and had I not been so full of drugs I would doubtless have enjoyed it more. However 4 or 5 star hotel-class a private hospital purports to be means nothing if the staff within are not to the same standard; that means everyone - reception, porters, anaesthesia, surgical and theatre, all nursing grades and auxiliaries, physiotherapists, catering and cleaning - fortunately BMI Edgbaston pulls it off admirably and should be very proud of its current staff (June 2013).
