I'm excited to share that Patient Opinion will be holding a learning event for health and care staff in Wales on 23 May 2017. We're really looking forward to it!

Although it is taking a while to get Patient Opinion off the ground in Wales, we are seeing steady progress. And there are certainly reasons to be optimistic, because patient-centred approaches and the use of patient stories to support quality improvement are well established in Wales.

For example, there has been excellent guidance such as Learning to Use Patient Stories (from 1000 Lives) and Listening and learning to improve the experience of care (from NHS Wales).

Learning from patient stories in Wales

But there has been less awareness of the potential of an online, transparent, system-wide approach to feedback like Patient Opinion. The Digital Health and Social Care Strategy for Wales (2015) sets out an ambitious plan, but barely mentions the digital possibilities for patient experience or patient feedback.

Yet when Patient Opinion is used effectively we see impacts including near real-time issue resolution, restoration of relationships, service improvement and culture change. And we'd love share all this with Wales: hence our workshop!

The workshop will be on Tuesday 23 May, from 1pm - 4:30pm, at Cardiff University Student Union. Our aims are to enable you to:

  • Understand how Patient Opinion works, and the values which motivate us
  • Hear about the diverse and unexpected benefits of public online feedback
  • Meet and learn from others using Patient Opinion in Wales and Scotland
  • Ask questions about our current service and our vision for the future

Places are limited to two per organisation and advance registration is essential.

If you would like to register, or learn more, please get in touch with Kate Williams here at Patient Opinion by calling 0114 281 6256, or emailing kate.williams@patientopinion.org.uk.
