"RCH Glasgow/WIH"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Ear, Nose & Throat (ward 3b) Scottish Air Ambulance Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Western Isles Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

In late November, I contacted NHS24 as my young son had a fever, rash and swelling behind his ear. After being assessed by a GP, we were told to make our way to Western Isles Hospital. The staff were fantastic-he was seen immediately and  the paediatrician called for who began making arrangements for us to be transferred to RCH, Glasgow. We were transferred by ambulance to the airport, where the air ambulance was waiting  to take us to Glasgow airport and then another ambulance took us to RCH.

Once again we were seen straight away and admitted to ward 3B, where a side room had been prepared for us. Every member of staff we encountered were fantastic-knowledgable, calm, caring reassuring and friendly, which is exactly what was needed in a stressful situation. Treatment plans were clearly explained to me, which was much appreciated.

We stayed in hospital for a week while the infection was treated before being discharged back home. As my son's condition improved, he was able to enjoy some of the amazing facilities available, including medicinema, the play rooms with the play leaders and a special visit to Santa’s Grotto.

I will forever be grateful to all the staff involved, from those at NHS 24, to everyone who helped us at both hospitals and ambulance crews involved for the highest quality care and compassion shown to us during a stressful and emotional time.

Dear Robins99,

Thank you so much for taking the time and compassion to contact us with such lovely feedback following what could only have been an extremely traumatic experience for you and your little boy.

I share your thanks and gratitude to our colleagues at Western Isles Hospital, NHS 24 and Scottish Ambulance for their preceding care which meant your son arrived ready to commence treatment immediately upon arrival.

Thank you for your positive comments regarding the facilities available for our children and young people, and I am so thankful your son recovered enough to participate in our Christmas adventures. We are immensely fortunate to have the support of Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity and MediCinema, which makes offering exciting events and activities through our Play Service programme accessible for all.

I was glad to note that after your stay with us, your son was well enough to travel home and I hope you all managed some quality family time together over the holiday period.

We appreciate so much the time you have taken to send us your comments. Our Director and General Manager have taken this opportunity to add their own thanks to yours to the Teams on Ward 3B and our Play Services for their care and dedication towards you and your son.

Sending warmest wishes to you and your little boy and I hope he is now fully recovered.

Coral
