I was admitted to the QMC's A&E Department with chest pains and couldn't breathe. I have COPD. I had rang 111 who got NEMS to call me. They told me to ring 999.
The paramedics who attended were brilliant and efficient as were the nursing staff. The issue I have got is with the doctor who treated me. He tried to infer it was trapped wind - I know the difference - then he dug his fingers deep into my stomach and chest intent. Three times he promised me pain relief, it never came. He came up to me and said I was going for 'the' X ray, inferring that he had told me about it. He hadn't.
At the end he told me that I had a severe chest infection and a shadow on my lung. He gave me a prescription for antibiotics and left me to walk the entire length of the hospital and halfway back again to get it filled, knowing that I could barely breathe and was in a lot of pain.
I was seen in the Gent's fighting for breath by someone who reported it to security, who came looking for me to see if I was alright.
I know that the department was busy. But that doesn't excuse this doctors attitude which in my opinion, was completely uncaring, patronising, arrogant, repugnant and abysmal.
"Bad attitude"
