"Being heard and supported"

About: Community Mental Health / Move Ahead - Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Service

(as a service user),

I met with Hayley from Move Ahead during my rehabilitation of an injury that had left me immobilised and isolated for several months. I had lost confidence in being out and in busy environments and was also anxious about the rehabilitation as it had gone through several set backs.

Hayley was easy to talk to. She had a great knowledge of different groups that are taking place around Perth and also took into account that I wouldn't be able to walk very far to get to them. It was such a was a relief to feel heard and supported in this way after all those months. Hayley helped me to connect with a group and to create a staged strategy for increasing my exposure to busy environments while also thinking about the ongoing physical rehabilitation.

I'm really grateful that this service is available. If there is anything that could have been better - it would be that the impact of anxiety and depression on recovery could have been made more clear in the first place and the referral could have been made sooner. This experience has taught me a lot about the danger of separating physical and mental health from each other.

Dear bluebc45,

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback regarding your support from Hayley and the MoveAhead service during your recovery journey. It is often overlooked how a physical injury or illness, which takes a lengthy time to recover from, can have such knock on effect on a persons mental health.

We appreciate all the feedback we receive and I will pass your comments onto Hayley.

It's great to know that you felt listened to, and that the support you received was tailored to your own interests and was at a pace you found manageable.

Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience on your recovery journey, and we hope that your physical & mental health recovery is going well.

Kind Regards

Richard Sime
