I met with Hayley from Move Ahead during my rehabilitation of an injury that had left me immobilised and isolated for several months. I had lost confidence in being out and in busy environments and was also anxious about the rehabilitation as it had gone through several set backs.
Hayley was easy to talk to. She had a great knowledge of different groups that are taking place around Perth and also took into account that I wouldn't be able to walk very far to get to them. It was such a was a relief to feel heard and supported in this way after all those months. Hayley helped me to connect with a group and to create a staged strategy for increasing my exposure to busy environments while also thinking about the ongoing physical rehabilitation.
I'm really grateful that this service is available. If there is anything that could have been better - it would be that the impact of anxiety and depression on recovery could have been made more clear in the first place and the referral could have been made sooner. This experience has taught me a lot about the danger of separating physical and mental health from each other.
